Columbus Police Investigate Fatal Stabbing in Weinland Park; Richland County Couple Charged

Columbus, OH – A Columbus man was found dead early Wednesday morning in Weinland Park, prompting a homicide investigation that has resulted in charges against a couple from Richland County.

Amareyon Daniels, 22, was discovered unresponsive with multiple stab wounds at approximately 7:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of North Grant Avenue. Emergency medics from the Columbus Division of Fire pronounced Daniels dead at the scene by 7:39 a.m., and city homicide detectives were called to investigate.

Shortly after the incident, at around 7:45 a.m., Shavar Johnson, 23, of Richland County, arrived at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center with a stab wound. Johnson was driven there by his girlfriend, Courtney Webb, 21, also of Richland County, according to homicide detectives.

The couple initially told detectives that Daniels had allegedly robbed Webb and threatened to assault her. Johnson claimed he fought off Daniels during the altercation, sustaining injuries in the process.

However, surveillance footage from the scene presented a starkly different narrative. According to a probable cause affidavit, the video shows Webb seated in a black Chevrolet HHR vehicle with Daniels when Johnson approached, opened Daniels’ door, and began stabbing him. Detectives confronted Webb with this evidence, prompting her to change her story. When pressed further, Webb reportedly requested legal representation.

At this time, authorities are uncertain about the nature of the meeting between Daniels, Webb, and Johnson, as the latter two reside in Richland County.

Johnson has been charged with murder, while Webb faces charges of obstructing justice. Both are currently held in the Franklin County jail and are set to appear in Municipal Court on Thursday.

Columbus police have issued a public request for assistance in the case. They are seeking any video evidence involving Daniels, Johnson, Webb, or the black 2011 Chevrolet HHR vehicle bearing Ohio license plate number JMJ-2728. This ongoing investigation highlights the critical role of community cooperation in solving violent crimes. Authorities encourage anyone with relevant information to come forward.
