On January 21, 2025, authorities arrested 19-year-old Montreal Savontae Jackson Jr. in connection with the fatal shooting of 9-year-old Antavious Scott in Florida City.
The incident occurred on November 16, 2024, when Scott was outside an apartment complex with friends near 865 West Lucy Street. Two individuals approached and opened fire, striking Scott. He was airlifted to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators utilized surveillance footage and cellphone data to identify Jackson as a suspect. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office announced his arrest, charging him with second-degree murder with a weapon.
Scott’s family expressed relief upon learning of the arrest. His mother, Shanika Williams, stated, “I feel good because I can finally rest knowing we got justice.” His grandmother, Teretha Williams, added, “I can finally rest.”
Jackson is currently detained in Miami-Dade jail, awaiting his court appearance.
