75-year-old Ronald Lamar Kirk drowns in Lake Lanier after falling into water while fishing
GAINESVILLE, Ga. — A 75-year-old man died after falling into a lake while fishing in Hall County, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched just before 9:45 a.m. to the 3200 block of Arrowhead Drive after a homeowner reported a possible drowning. Upon arrival, authorities found Ronald Lamar Kirk, 75, of Talking Rock, unresponsive in the water.
A deputy pulled Kirk from the lake, and emergency personnel immediately initiated life-saving measures before transporting him to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville. He was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Investigators determined that Kirk had been fishing with his 89-year-old uncle at the time of the incident. According to officials, Kirk’s fishing lure became caught on a dock. While attempting to free it — with one foot on the dock and the other in the boat — he lost his balance and fell into the water.
His uncle attempted to rescue him but was unable to do so. He then went to a nearby residence to seek assistance.
The incident appears to be accidental, and no foul play is suspected.
