Devon Briggs, Evelyn Plakal Identified as Victims in Fatal Riverwatch Parkway Wreck Augusta georgia

Two Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash on Riverwatch Parkway in Augusta

A tragic single-vehicle crash along Riverwatch Parkway in Augusta has claimed the lives of two young adults, according to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities reported that emergency responders were dispatched on Monday, April 20, to the westbound lanes of Riverwatch Parkway near mile marker 2, in the vicinity of Goodrich Street. Upon arrival, officials discovered a severely damaged vehicle that had veered off the roadway and descended down a steep embankment.

Preliminary findings indicate that the crash likely occurred two days earlier, on Saturday, April 18, but went unnoticed until it was discovered on Monday evening.

The victims have been identified as Devon Briggs, 23, of Buena Vista, Georgia, and Evelyn Plakal, 22, of Elgin, South Carolina. Investigators believe the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed while navigating a curve when it drifted off the north shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle subsequently struck a guardrail and overturned.

According to the coroner’s report, Briggs was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, while Plakal remained inside the car. Both individuals sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 6:00 p.m. on Monday.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Coroner’s Office, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have not yet released further details as the investigation remains ongoing.
