Father Arrested Following Tragic Shooting Death of His 9-Year-Old Son in Compton

A father has been arrested in connection with the tragic shooting death of his 9-year-old son in Compton over the weekend.
The incident occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at a residence on Haskins Avenue near Visalia Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies arrived to find the boy, identified by his mother as Princeton Nicholas Jones, suffering from a gunshot wound in the backyard of the home. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an investigation, detectives identified the boy’s biological father, 32-year-old Nicholas Jones, as the suspect. He was arrested on charges of murder and child abuse resulting in death.
The boy’s mother, Creole Green, shared that her son had autism and expressed heartbreak over his untimely death.
“My goal was to provide him with the proper teachings and resources to navigate this world independently one day,” Green said. “I’m devastated that my son’s life was cut short at just nine years old.”
Family members revealed that Princeton was staying at his grandfather’s house when the shooting occurred. They described him as a funny and caring child who deeply loved his mother.
A vigil was held on Sunday to honor Princeton’s life, with community leaders speaking out against violence.
“This is our community,” said Paulette Gibson, president of the Compton NAACP. “It’s heartbreaking that our young people can’t feel safe in their own neighborhoods.”
A GoFundMe account has been set up to support the family, and further details about the incident remain under investigation.
