The Stroud Area Regional Police Department has launched an investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred around 8:00 p.m. in Stroudsburg.

According to an official statement, officers were dispatched to the Wawa convenience store located on West Main Street in response to multiple reports of gunfire.

Upon arriving at the scene, police found 17-year-old Garrett Sorrenti suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck. Officers immediately rendered lifesaving aid until emergency medical services (EMS) arrived. Despite their efforts, Sorrenti was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary findings suggest the tragic event stemmed from a verbal dispute that began inside the store. The altercation escalated into a physical confrontation involving several individuals. During the conflict, the suspect reportedly brandished a handgun and fired a single shot before fleeing the scene.

The Monroe County Coroner’s Office officially pronounced Sorrenti deceased at the hospital shortly before 11:00 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled later this week to confirm the precise cause of death.

Police have indicated that this appears to be an isolated incident. The Stroud Area Regional Police Department has taken charge of the investigation and continues to gather evidence and leads.
