21 Year Old Lamarr Box Jr. Killed in Soulard Shooting East St. Louis Man Charged
East St. Louis Man Charged in Fatal Soulard Shooting That Claimed Life of 21-Year-Old
Authorities have formally charged a 24-year-old East St. Louis man in connection with a deadly shooting incident in the Soulard area of St. Louis that left one man dead and two others injured.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office announced that Jabril Olivaria has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action following the April 3 shooting.
According to investigators, the incident occurred at approximately 5:50 p.m. near a gas station located in the 700 block of Russell Boulevard. Responding officers arrived to find a 21-year-old man inside a crashed Audi, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department identified the victim as Lamarr Box Jr., 21, also a resident of East St. Louis. In addition to the fatality, two other individuals, ages 26 and 29, were transported separately to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators determined that the violence began inside the gas station. Evidence collected at the scene included more than 50 spent shell casings recovered both inside the store and throughout the parking lot. Surveillance footage reviewed by authorities reportedly shows multiple individuals exchanging gunfire within the store before the situation escalated and moved outside.
According to a probable cause statement filed by police, Olivaria was not initially inside the gas station at the time the shooting began. However, investigators allege that he observed an individual fleeing the scene, pursued him, and fired multiple shots after the individual entered a vehicle.
That individual, later identified as Box, managed to drive a short distance before crashing the vehicle. He later died from his injuries at the hospital.
Olivaria was formally charged on Thursday and subsequently taken into custody. Court records indicate he is currently being held without bond at the St. Louis jail as the investigation and legal proceedings continue.
